2024 Tappin Roots Internship

Tappin Roots (TR) is an environmental internship program for Black and Brown-identified high school students in the Greater Portland area. Tappin Roots was created by a collaborative group of Black and Indigenous-led organizations.
TR seeks to train and empower the next generation of environmental leaders and community leaders using:
Storytelling
Mentorship
Career exploration
Place-based learning
Healing practices
The TR partners hope to connect young Black Oregonians closer to nature, and closer to their cultural history. Each Intern is eligible to receive up to $4000 based on their participation in the following:
Orientation
Mandatory Orientation
Monthly Symposiums
Time Working with Partner Orgs
After orientation Interns will participate in monthly career and environmental justice symposiums led by professionals of color. Learning opportunities will include Financial Literacy, Computer Fundamentals and Oregon's Black history. They will implement culturally relevant skills and knowledge they acquire to educate others about the natural world. Interns will participate in summer nature-based education work with one of the community based partners, including a week of mandatory training.
